Fox And Hounds Pub Wimborne Review

Sharing is caring!

The Fox and Hounds pub in Wimborne is located just outside the town off the Canford Bottom roundabout. (Fox Lane, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 2EQ).

Nestled along a country lane in Little Canford, you may not spot it unless you pass by. The family friendly pub near Wimborne also welcomes dogs and has a large beer garden and play area.

Owned by the Chef and Brewer chain, a chain running country style pubs in a beautiful setting.

The pub is a Grade II listed building with a pretty thatched roof. Sitting next to the river Stour, and very close to the Castleman Trailway, the Fox and Hounds pub is a popular place for walkers and cyclists.

Fox And Hounds Pub Menu

Depending on when you visit, there are a variety of different menus to choose from. The lunch menu is a trimmed down version of the main menu, but the prices are slightly cheaper with discounts on starters and desserts.

The portion sizes on the lunch menu don’t appear to be trimmed down however, offering good value for money.

For the younger guests, there is a separate menu and on a Sunday a menu featuring Sunday roasts.

The choices are plentiful on each menu, with items such as traditional burgers, fish and chips, scampi and gammon. If you are looking for something a little different, the lunch time open sandwiches look very tempting as well.

Facilities At The Fox And Hounds Pub In Wimborne

The pub offers WIFI, a takeaway service, order and pay via an app, disabled facilities and a large beer garden with plenty of space to play. Inside the pub there is a large open fire which would be very welcome and cosy on Winter nights.

Our Experience

With restrictions still in place, we visited for lunch sitting in the beer garden. The weather was kind to us, and we felt as though there was plenty of space despite the customers that seemed to arrive in a steady flow

On arrival we were given the choice of a menu, or ordering via the Greene King Pub app. I find ordering via an app very convenient as you don’t have to wait for a server to spot you are looking for something. This is a great idea whether restrictions are in place or not.

We opted for the lunch menu as we did visit for lunch. The menu offers plenty of choice with clear labels for dietary requirements. Our drinks arrived very quickly after ordering and paying, and the food not long after.

With an order of burger and chips and scampi, we had opted for traditional pub food, and found the portions to be huge. I could barely eat all of mine.

We found all the staff to be welcoming and helpful. There was always someone around if we needed them, yet we were left to enjoy our meal and drinks in peace which I liked.

After leaving, we both definitely said we would return again for another meal.
