Let’s walk some of the South West Coast path and enjoy the Langdon Woods to Golden Cap walk in Dorset. Did you know that Golden Cap is the highest point in Dorset located between Bridport and Charmouth.
You can access Golden Cap from the coastal path at Seatown or via Langdon Wood. We have explored the Golden Cap walk starting at Langdon Wood which is owned by the National Trust.

Parking for Golden Cap
We chose the Langdon Hill car park as our starting point which is located at DT6 6EP. This car park is managed by the National Trust and offers FREE parking for any National Trust members. (Don’t forget your membership card).
There are no toilet or refreshments facilities at Langdon Hill car park. If you choose to start from Seatown, then facilities are available.
The car park is accessed via a single track lane, but is well sign posted and has plenty of spaces.

Golden Cap Walk From Langdon Hill Car Park
From the car park, take the left hand track which is also sign posted to Golden Cap. This walk will begin in Langdon Woods and offers some stunning views from vantage points of Golden Cap itself.
The ground is wide and compact along the first stretch of the walk. It’s also nice and flat to begin with. This is also a great place for dog walking in the area too.

There are plenty of well placed signs to show you the direction to Golden Cap. Leaving the woods, you will go down the woodland path to a gate before walking across a field.
There are two gates in the field that are easily viewable. Stick to the left hand gate which hugs the edge of the field. You’ll already be treated to some lovely coastal views even before starting your climb.

Climbing Golden Cap
It wont be long before you’re at the base of Golden Cap. The steps in the ground are well maintained and large. Whilst it’s a steep climb, it’s not a long climb to the top of Golden Cap.
You’ll be treated to a trig point quite quickly, but don’t think this is the end of the walk.

Stop and admire the view for a while before following the path to your right. This will take you to the top of Golden Cap allowing you 360 views of the stunning Dorset and Devon coastline. On a clear day the views across to Lyme Regis are amazing.
Able walkers should complete the Langdon Woods to Golden Cap walk from the car part to the top in around thirty to forty minutes. You can extend your walk by following the coastal paths towards Seatown or Chideock.
Langdon Woods is a great starting point for your Golden Cap walk in the Spring months if you enjoy finding bluebells.
