Two Rivers Walk Wareham

Sharing is caring!

Why not try the Two Rivers walk in Wareham on your next visit to the town. This circular walk is approximately 2.5 miles in length, but expect it to take around 1.5 hours if walking slowly when stopping for photos and to enjoy the views.

This river walk takes you along the river Frome and river Piddle in Wareham Dorset. Why not stop afterwards at The Old Granary pub for a drink or bite to eat.

Wareham Two Rivers Walk Parking

There are various parking options close to the start of the Two River walk. Choose from the Quay car park (BH20 4NN), however this car park is closed on Saturday for Wareham market.

The closest car park to the start of the walk is Connegar Lane car park (BH20 4NQ). This is located close to Wareham church and cemetery. There is also some limited road parking, however the road is quite narrow with a small turning circle at the end.

Wareham Two Rivers Walk Route

The Two Rivers walk begins from the bottom of the road at the edge of the cemetery. You can choose to turn left or right here following the sign posts. We turned right and began our walk walking away from the Wareham walls.

The path begins by walking through some woodland. In wetter months, this area will be very boggy and something to consider before beginning the walk. As you cross a small bridge and stream, the path veers under some trees before a zig zag bridge towards a path running alongside the river Frome.

Look for the signposts with the Lapwing bird on and then you know you’re on the right path. Being a circular walk, you can’t veer off the path or get lost.

The path is very narrow in places and there are some steep inclines down to the water, so take care in wet or icy weather. The Two Rivers Walk is probably best explored in the Spring or Summer months when the ground conditions are at their best.

If you’re lucky along the walk, you’ll spot some wildlife and people enjoying their boats on the river. Spotting the church is a good marker as to where you are walking. At no time did we think we were walking in a circle, but it’s amazing how the church is all of a sudden behind you.

Eventually you will reach a sign post where you can turn left through the gate back towards Wareham. The right hand path joins the Frome Valley Trail. Turning left take you down a wider track that has much better walking conditions. As the track stops, there is a gate and road. Follow the road back into Wareham and you will meet the path that joins with the Wareham Walls walk.

Here turn left across the walls or along the road and continue until you arrive back at the edge of the cemetery and the beginning of the walk. Of course you could also do this walk in reverse as well.

If you’re thinking of completing this walk it’s worth noting that the path isn’t accessible, and I wouldn’t recommend pushchairs. If you’re taking the dog, there are parts where you will want to keep them on a lead if you don’t want them going for a swim, or getting stuck in the reeds.
