Bowleaze Cove

In the north east of Weymouth, Bowleaze Cove is a sand and shingle beach. The beach also lies on the Jurassic Coast and is next to the popular Fantasy Island Funfair.

There is plenty of parking available next to Bowleaze Cove, with refreshments from The Sunset Bar and restaurant, The Beachside and Cafe Oasis.

Public toilets are available next to Cafe Oasis at the entrance to the Cove, and there are also toilets in the cafe for customers.

Dogs are welcome at Bowleaze Cove all year round. There are also some great places for rock pooling at the eastern side of the beach

Castle Cove Beach

Also sometimes known as Sandsfoot Cove, Castle Cove is a small secluded sandy beach to the west of Weymouth.

A popular beach for swimming, sailing, snorkelling and diving, the cove is privately owned but is open to the public. During low tide you may even spot some interesting rock pools.

There are limited car parking spaces along the road near Castle Cove which are free to park in. There are no public toilets or refreshments available at Castle Cove.

Chesil Beach

Just outside of Weymouth towards Portland is Chesil Beach. It’s a shingle beach which acts as a barrier joining the Isle of Portland to the mainland.

Parking is available next to the beach centre, chargeable by the hour. Chesil beach is a popular location for fishing rather than sunbathing. It’s also worth noting that on a sunny day, there isn’t any shade. There are also some great campsites nearby if you’re looking for a staycation.

Public toilets are available in the visitor centre which also has a cafe for refreshments and interactive displays showcasing the formation of the beach.

Greenhill beach is a popular choice for the locals as it’s a lot quieter than the main stretch along Weymouth beach. It’s mainly shingle rather than sand but in a very pretty setting surrounded by a promenade.

The nearest carpark to Greenhill beach is at Lodmore Country Park, or road side parking near the beach but spaces here are limited.

Public toilets and a cafe are available in the next door Greenhill gardens, or alternatively there is beach cafe near the pier bandstand.

Dogs are welcomed onto the beach between October and April.


Overcombe Beach

Weymouth DT3 6RY

Overcombe beach is just to the east of Weymouth and is very popular for windsurfers, kite surfers and kayaks.

Sitting next to Preston Beach, Overcombe has its own cafe with a car park attached. Dogs are welcomed onto Overcombe beach all year round.

Preston Beach

A popular location for fishing, especially when the sea is rough at Chesil beach, Preston beach lies between Greenhill beach and Bowleaze Cove.

The beach is made up purely of shingle and has quite shallow waters. The beach is also popular for dog walking between October and April when dogs are allowed onto the beach.

Parking is available in the main beach car park which is chargeable by the hour. There are also toilets available in Lodmoor Country Park.


Weymouth Beach

Weymouth Beach is possibly the most well known beach in the town. A blue flag award winning sandy beach in Dorset, the beach is a popular destination especially during the Summer months.

There is plenty going on during the peak season with traditional Punch and Judy shows, to donkey rides, and a visit to Sandworld is a must.

Public toilets are available along the beach as well as deckchair hire, and beach side kiosks for refreshments.

There are a few choices for parking near Weymouth Beach, the nearest being the Beach Car Park holding 281 spaces.
