Swanage Steam Railway

The Swanage steam railway runs between Swanage and Corfe Castle in Dorset with various stops along the way.
After much of the railway line was demolished in 1972, many years of campaigning followed and the line was slowly rebuilt. Today the Swanage Railway Trust operates the services and activities currently in operation. There are varying train timetables throughout the year with lots of different experiences and events happening.
A one way steam train journey takes around 20-25 minutes, and it’s also a dog friendly day out in Dorset as well.
Moors Valley Railway
The Moors Valley steam railway is a popular activity when visiting the country park. The train journey takes you around the park, and is open every weekend and during all the school holidays.
There are two stations at Moors Valley to embark and disembark, and there are also plenty of places for spectators to stand and wave as the train goes by.
Bournemouth Beach Land Train
The land train at Bournemouth runs between Bournemouth pier and Boscombe Pier. This is also a great place for beach walks if some of you wish to get the train and others want to walk.
The trains run between April and October each year depending on the weather. So why not enjoy the sights of the Bournemouth beaches from the comfort of the train.
Hengistbury Head Land Train
If you’re visiting Hengistbury Head, you can enjoy some amazing walks around the beach and along the paths towards Mudeford Spit. You can also take the land train for one part or a return journey.
The land train runs daily during the peak season and at other frequencies during the quieter months of the year. The train doesn’t run at all during the Winter months however.
Lodmoor Country Park
If you’re visiting Weymouth and Lodmoor Country Park, perhaps to visit Weymouth Sealife Centre, or to play some crazy golf. Don’t forget there’s also a miniature railway to discover. The Rio Grande railway is a model railway which circles the events area at Lodmoor and is open to visitors throughout the summer season.
Wimborne Model Town
The model town in Wimborne is open daily between April and October each year. You’ll also find the model railway which is a must see for railway enthusiasts.
Engine drivers of all ages will enjoy the 00 gauge model railway diorama. The multi track layout runs with motion sensor controls and features main line, branch line and Underground line running. The layout has a night time lighting sequence. The Railway Room also features a display of local railway history.

Littledown Miniature Railway
The railway is usually open for rides on Wednesdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am to 3pm. The train ride takes you for a 1/3 mile through a wooded area in Littledown Park.
