Lulworth Cove Inn History

The Inn was originally a mail stagecoach drop, a place to get fresh horses and drop off the mail for the villagers of Lulworth. In Smuggler times, it was a popular place for smugglers to sell their contraband and lace.

Now it’s a popular country pub overlooking the cove run by Hall and Woodhouse, with 12 nautical themed rooms available if you’re looking to stay in the area.

Lulworth Cove Inn Menu

We decided to stop in for lunch during a recent visit to Lulworth Cove. Booking is advised as the pub can get very busy on peak days through the year,

There is an extensive menu throughout the day offering meals such as traditional fish and chips, burgers and ham egg and chips. There’s also smaller appetite plates, nibbles and starters or sharing platters.

Being in the heart of a tourist village, we expected the prices to be slightly higher than average, however it was good to note than when comparing the menu prices against a more rural Hall and Woodhouse pub, there wasn’t a high inflation of prices.

If a main meal isn’t your choice for lunch for example, there are sandwich options available on the menu. And of course there will always have to be room for dessert.

Visiting on a Sunday offers traditional Sunday roasts, and there is also a separate children’s menu as well if you are bringing small people.

Lulworth Cove Inn Atmosphere

Walking into the Lulworth Cove Inn gives off a welcoming atmosphere. We were looking for a family friendly pub and a dog friendly pub in Dorset for our visit, and we weren’t disappointed.

Taking our dog with us to the pub is important as we like to include her in our days out, and this includes a nice meal.

There were plenty of dogs in the pub dotted around, and even though we were seated in a booth on a main walkway towards the pub exit, we had plenty of room and never felt in the way.

The decor inside is mainly brick and wood, but with plenty of random quotes on the wall. It’s quirky but homely. A table nearby us had a lovely fireplace near them which would be so welcoming on a Winter’s evening.

Food At Lulworth Cove Inn

We had all decided to opt for main meals during our visit, with two opting for burgers, one fish and chips and a ham, egg and chips.

The service was efficient as we arrived, but lacked a little during our meal. I did put this down to the business and social distancing needs in the pub however rather than poor service.

The food was delivered quickly and was of large quantities. I could see we wouldn’t need another meal that day.

Overall we enjoyed our food and visit to the Lulworth Cove Inn and would return again in the future when visiting Lulworth.

if you’re thinking of maybe some fossil hunting on the beach, or completing a challenging walk from Lulworth Cove to Mupe Bay and back, or perhaps a walk between Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. A sit down and a meal here might be just the thing you’re looking for.
