Adventure farm parks are the perfect day out for children under 10 years old. There are some great farm parks in Dorset with plenty of variety of things to see and do. They are often almost a whole day out with animals to see, feeding times, outdoor adventure play equipment and plenty more.

Farmer Palmers

Wareham Rd, Organford, Poole, Organford, Poole BH16 6EU

Farmer Palmers is a popular family day out near Poole in Dorset. Aimed at children up to 8 years old, there’s always plenty going on. 

There are plenty of animals to discover from donkeys, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, chickens, ducks, red deer, cows and sheep. There’s also ponies and pigs to discover. 

Once you’ve seen the animals, you can take part in all of the additional facilities on the farm. Birthday party packages are also available.

There are refreshments available to purchase at Farmer Palmers, but you’re also very welcome to take a picnic. The farm park has plenty of all year activities and events happening such as an outdoor cinema, Halloween events and Christmas events too.

New for 2021 was Dinosaur Roar. Discover the brightly coloured dinosaurs in the woodland trail at Farmer Palmers. Since June 2021, the first part of the trail is open during your visit. 

Additional stages of the activities will include a palaeontology tent with interactive activities and events all aimed at young children.

Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park

Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park

Edmondsham Road, Verwood, BH21 5RJ

One of the last heavy horse centres in Great Britain. There’s plenty going on at the Heavy Horse Centre near Verwood in Dorset. Enjoy heavy horse drawn carriage rides and miniature pony carriage rides. There’s also tractor and trailer rides, lots of play areas and a pet corner. 

If you’re visiting to see the animal, you will be able to spot horses, ponies and miniature Shetlands. There’s also donkeys, alpacas, Kune Kune pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. Smaller animals include guinea pigs, rabbits, aviary birds and owls. You may even spot a turkey.

Throughout the day there are tours where you can help the farmers with the feeding schedules and even do a bit of digging and planting.

The adventure play area is home to a play park and zip wire, with Victorian swing boats and sandpit areas. There are also pedal tractors and a go kart arena for the kids to play in as well.

Vurlands Animal Farm

Dorchester DT2 9DB

A family run business located along the Jurassic Coast road in Dorset. The animal farm also has tearooms across the 20 acres of farm.

On site there is soft play, and outdoor play area, willow maze and plenty of picnic areas to enjoy the stunning scenery. Pig racing happens every day which is always a great crowd pleaser. 

The animals at Vurlands Farm include guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and poultry ranging from turkeys, different breeds of ducks and chickens.

You can also see pheasant and guinea fowl, as well as an aviary with various breeds of budgies and finches. 

The larger animals on the farm include donkeys, alpacas, sheep, golden Guernsey and pygmy goats. There are also the pigs of course, and you may even spot piglets throughout the year.

Putlake Adventure Farm

High St, Swanage BH19 3EU

Perfect for children aged 0-10. Putlake is the only adventure farm and indoor soft play area in Swanage for up to 10 miles. The farm is a working farm with animals including Mitsy the Bengaleaze owl, pigs, cows, lambs and goats. You can also see alpacas, ponies, Doris the Shire horse, rabbits and Guinea Pigs. Not forgetting the chickens, donkeys, birds, tortoises, peacocks and chipmunks.

Throughout the day you can enjoy the schedule of events including tractor and trailer rides, animal handling, and grooming. Additional farm facilities include soft play, trampolines, pedal go karts, ride on tractors and outside play areas.

Kingston Maurwood Animal Park

Dorchester DT2 8PY

Animals at Kingston Maurwood Farm and animal park include ducks, pigs and sheep, chickens, guinea pigs and bunnies! There’s also peacocks, Shetland Ponies, owls and plenty more. After seeing the animals, stop off in the Barn Cafe for some homemade sandwiches, hot pastries and hand made cakes.
