If you’re looking for dog walks in Poole, check out some of these ideas. Poole has some great places to walk dogs, across nature reserves and through large green spaces. You will be treated to some great views across the water and the Purbecks.
Many of these walks have plenty of parking available close by as well as toilet and refreshment facilities close by as well.
Upton Country Park
Poole Road, Upton, BH17 7BJ
Upton Country Park has been a popular choice for dog walking for many years. They have recently introduced the “Paw Prints” code which offers a traffic light system telling you where you can allow your dogs off lead, keep them on the lead, and areas where dogs aren’t permitted.
As well as plenty of green space at the park, you will discover a DIY dog washing service in the car park for your muddy dogs at the end of their exercise if needed. There are also now two enclosed dog training areas if you need to hire some space for training or off lead exercise.
Canford Heath Nature Reserve
BH21 3BW
There are plenty of paths to discover in the 850 acre nature reserve in Poole. Free parking is available, yet limited on the roads next to the entrance to the reserve.
You may discover livestock so dogs must be kept on a short lead, and every year during bird breeding between 1st March – 31st July, dogs are to also be kept on a lead at all times when walking in the nature reserve.
Poole Park
Parkstone, Poole, BH15 2SF
Parking is free at Poole Park, however spaces are limited. You can enjoy a 2 kilometre walk around the lake. Dogs must be kept on leads in the park as it can get very busy, and there are swans and wildlife in the lake.

Baiter Park

Situated next to Poole Park if you walk out of the back entrance near the railway line and under the subway, you can cross the road into Baiter Park. This is a large green space area with clear paths for you and your dog to enjoy. There is also parking available at Baiter Park.

Ham Common

Ham Common is a large heathland next to Poole Harbour. You can see across the Purbecks on a nice day with stunning views. There are two car parks located at Ham Common, (one at Lake Drive, and the other on Napier Road).

Lake Pier
BH15 4LR
Next door to Ham Common is Lake Pier, a dedicated dog beach throughout the year. The beach is made up of a sand and shingle mix.
A popular place for dog walks in Poole along the beach and through Ham Common next door. There is a small car park available and toilets are on site.
Sandbanks Beach
Banks Road, BH13 7QQ
Sandbanks has a dedicated dog friendly area of the beach near the chain ferry. If you’d like to take dogs on the main beach, they are welcome between 1st October and 31st April.

Branksome Park Wood
Leicester Rd, Poole BH13 6BZ
The woodland is quite narrow, but with areas of grassland for dogs to enjoy. The woods lead out to Branksome Chine Gardens and the sea front.
There is limited road side parking, or a pay and display car park is in Penn Hill Avenue.
Lytchett Bay Nature Reserve
161 Sandy Ln, Upton, Poole BH16 5LU
Dogs are welcome on a lead in Lytchett Bay Nature Reserve. There are plenty of paths to discover and walk along, however there is deep water in the area, as well as nesting wildlife throughout the year.
